Google Maps Update: What’s New?

It’s a long-standing truth that Google Maps is the best customer-facing mapping service in the world. Google Maps maintains its industry-leading advantage by introducing new updates and features on a regular basis. Recently the company introduced new commute features with customized live traffic and transit information, EV charging station locator, improved journey sharing and more. However, most of us don’t even know about these features as it’s really hard to keep track of them.

Well, we want to change that and that’s why we are creating this post where we will list all Google Maps updates and the new features that come along with it. The data mentioned here has directly been lifted from Google’s changelog so you will always know what new features were introduced and when.

Note:If you see the same changelog for multiple versions, it means that the new versions brought bug fixes and improvements to improve the implementation of the said features. It also means no new features were released during those updates.

The updates mentioned here are for the Android platform. If you are using web or iOS version of the app, you might receive these updates sooner or later than the dates mentioned here.

As you can see, for the last few months, Google’s focus has been towards releasing a comprehensible list of all the EV charging stations around the world. That said, it doesn’t mean that that’s the only new feature that Google Maps has been playing with. In fact, at any given time, Google is testing out numerous features through its beta testing program.

If you want access to those features, you will have to join the Google Maps Beta program. While the beta program is prone to suffer from some bugs, the overall experience is not so bad.
