Huawei Developer Conference Set for August 9; Could Show Off its New OS

Jul. 6, 2019

We expect to see a variety of products and services being shown off at the event, along with innovations in the 5G and IoT space. However, the conference could bear witness to the official reveal ofHuawei’s much-rumored Android alternative –HongMeng OS.

The Internet is flooded with reports of the company working on its own mobile OS that’s based on AOSP. We’ve got a brief look at design sketches for HongMeng’s UI, along with word on the speedy nature of the software. It’s said to be 60% faster than Android and Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei hasconfirmedthe same, adding it will be faster than Apple’s macOS as well. He further added that HongMeng is designed to work with routers, data centers, network switches, smart home devices, and more.

Apart from Huawei’s in-house operating system reveal, which is still doubtful, you can expect the company to talk about its work on smart home, sports health, smart travel, EMUI, AR/ VR, and Huawei Pay.

Huawei may have been cornered by the US trade ban, however, Trump has allowed US companies toonce again conduct businesswith Huawei. The company still sits on the Department of Commerce’s Entity List (it’s blacklisted) and isn’t allowed to market its services in the US.

Now, it will be interesting to see whether Huawei slowly but steadily pushes out its own Hongmeng OS in the next couple odd years or continues to build on its partnership with Google. What are your expectations from Huawei? Share your opinion in the comments down below.
